2008 Barbaresco Vigna Borgese rating 90/100
The 2008 Barbaresco Borgese is an attractive, up-front wine with good juiciness and inner perfume. It is a supple, approachable Barbaresco best enjoyed on the young side. Dark cherries, crushed flowers and spices wrap around the inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. This is one of the most impressive lineups I have ever tasted from Piero Busso. It’s great to see this small, artisanal grower doing so well. Hopefully this is a sign of even greater things to come

2008 Barbaresco Vigna Bricco Mondino
rating 91/100
The 2008 Barbaresco Mondino is a touch brighter and firmer than the Borgese. Freshly cut flowers, dark red fruit and licorice are some of the notes that flow from the glass. The Mondino impresses for its length and vibrant, high-toned finish. This is another beautifully balanced wine from Piero Busso. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.

2008 Barbaresco Vigna San Stunet
rating 91/100
The 2008 Barbaresco San Stunet S. Stefanetto is one of the most harmonious, complete wines I have tasted from Piero Busso in a long time. Dark cherries, menthol and spices flesh out nicely in this Barbaresco, Busso’s only wine from the village of Treiso. Sweet balsamic notes appear later, adding further dimensions of complexity. The S. Stefanetto remains classy and elegant, with a mid-weight personality that will offer rewarding drinking for a number of years. Menthol and licorice linger on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.

2007 Barbaresco Gallina
rating 92/100
The 2007 Barbaresco Gallina is a gorgeous, round wine laced with expressive dark fruit, spices and French oak. It shows lovely brightness and focus, especially if given some time in the glass or decanter to open up. The oak is a bit intrusive at the outset, but dissipates over time. I especially like the way the Gallina fleshes out on the mid-palate and finish. This is the most immediate of Busso’s current releases, much of which is attributable to the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.

2007 Barbaresco San Stunet
rating 92/100
The 2007 Barbaresco San Stunet S. Stefanetto is one of the richer, more muscular wines in this lineup. It shows gorgeous tension in its red fruit, minerals, crushed flowers and spices, very much in the voice of wines from Treiso. High-toned floral notes and hints of anise add lift on the finish. This shows terrific intensity and depth. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.

2007 Barbaresco Vigna Borgese
rating 91/100
Piero Busso’s 2007 Barbaresco Borgese offers up red berries, crushed flowers and mint along with a pretty, accessible personality. This shows terrific persistence and roundnness in a deceptively medium-bodied style. An inviting, harmonious finish makes this an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020.
